How can Hypnotherapy possibly help with Chronic Pain I hear you ask? Well it can and does! The tireless efforts of the American Physician, Professor John Sano MD, in his 50 years of clinical therapy, has shed new light on the origins of chronic pain. His theory of TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome) is groundbreaking and his clinical results compelling evidence. Essentially the subconscious/unconscious mind manifests pain by restricting blood and oxygen flow to a particular area in the body. This is done as a diversion in order to prevent potentially painful repressed emotions in the subconscious from coming into the conscious mind. Not all chronic pain is a result of TMS, but Dr Sano's clinical results have shown that 85% of chronic lower back pain is a direct result of TMS. As with most repressed emotions, which we all have from time to time, we are often unaware of them or their origin. The beauty of hypnotherapy is that we don't need to know either! In a clinically induced trance you have access to your subconscious mind allowing it to identify and clear these emotions, thus reducing the need for chronic pain.  Hypnotherapy can also reduce non TMS related pain as well. Its use in surgical procedures is well documented over the centuries and the practice of 'Hypnosedation' is gaining positive clinical results in some American hospitals. Science is now showing that our beliefs and thoughts can effect change in our bodies at a cellular level. With careful guidance and visualisation techniques, hypnotherapy can help in reducing your pain and provide you an improvement in your quality of life.
