Every single impression, experience and event of our lives is recorded in our subconscious minds. When a trigger or link to a past experience or event is received by us, we can clearly remember it even though we are not always conscious of it and may not have remembered that particular event for some years. If we need to remember someones name or remember a past situation we can call it up when we need to, even though we are not conscious of it every day. This is a normal relationship between our conscious and subconscious minds in every day life. With a traumatic event or series of events this relationship is entirely uprooted. Our unconscious mind may try to find ways to protect us from reliving the traumatic effects of the experience/s, which may manifest as suppression, disassociation, avoidance, hyper-vigilance or other such symptoms. The reality though with PTSD is that it continually finds its way into our conscious mind and its powerful subconscious presence affects our every moment. As PTSD is different for every individual and will manifest symptomatically in a variety of ways, each situation needs to be approached in its own specific way. Clinical Hypnotherapy is well positioned to help with PTSD as the problem lies in the subconscious and it is here that the problem is best addressed.
